has successfully phased out 73.45 metric tons of Methyl
Bromide from the strawberry production sector using crop
rotation, soil solarization, chemical fumigation, soil steaming and a reduced rate of MeBr application.
This value represents 87.4% of the total Methyl Bromide that needs to be eliminated. It has been phased out by 72% of strawberry farmers from 186.24 Ha of strawberry fields distributed over all Lebanese regions...

Food Safety In Lebanon |
UNIDO's "Food Quality and Safety" project is part of Lebanon's
integrated programme (IP) "To increase the competitiveness of the
Lebanese industry and its integration in the global market". The food
safety work started in May 2001 with an assessment of the food
sector in Lebanon followed by a workshop for all
food sector stakeholders in the country held in
June and was carried out in
connection with other IP
activities: the
evaluation of the whole Lebanese quality
infrastructure, the assistance to the Lebanese
Bureau of Standards (LIBNOR) and testing laboratories (IRI) and the elaboration of a draft
proposal for a new standardization law. In December 2001 a "Food Safety
Panel" was established under the UNIDO IP to be the key consultative/advisory
