Investment Promotion (IPU)
“Assistance to
Jordan Investment Board in the attraction of FDI and Market Access for local
SME development 2005-2007, project budget 1.2 million Euro. The main
Project’s components are:
-
Support to
JIB in organizing an Investment and Trade Forum held in Amman on
18th-20th June 2006 (Dead Sea Convention Centre).
-
Technical
assistance to local SMEs.
-
Facilitating
flows of credit towards local SMEs through a bilateral credit line
between Italian and Jordanian Government (still operative).

The following
export consortia have been registered, for which various technical
assistance including business plan have been provided.

Private Sector
Development Programme
The extensive
consultations that were made for various stakeholders, including UNDP, Mop,
MoI, MoA, JEDCO, Chamber of Industry concluded that the upcoming UNIDO
UNDP joint programme should focus to work with SMEs in the Agro Industry.
Specifically:
-
Upgrading
quality control and promotion capacities of SMEs in the Agro-Industry
sector.

Support the
establishment of business advisory services for SMEs in the
Agro-Industry sector.
-
Support the
development of backward and forward linkages for SMEs in the Agro
Industry sector.
-
Building the
capacity of the SME Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade and
the National Monitoring and Supervising Committee in the area of
Agro-Industry.
A programme
formulation mission will be visiting the country to prepare a full fledged
programme PSD programme document on Sept/ 2007. programme estimated budget
is 3.5 million USD
Cleaner Production
Programme
A Project
proposal for setting up a cleaner production programme for Jordan was sent a
month a go to UNIDO headquarters, after extensive consultations with various
stakeholders and two round tables organized by UNDO and ministry of
Environment.
The proposed
cleaner production programme shall include following three themes:

Technical
part will be undertaken by JUST, RSS, FOE and NERC.

Legal and
polices part will be undertaken by MoI&T, MoE, …
-
Marketing
promotion and awareness part, this will be undertaken by Chamber of
Industry, MoI, …
